You've already met Jan and Larry on the "About Us" Page.  We started the ball rolling and it's still rolling strong!  A Duo of Steel Drums with midi backgrounds provides the sound of a 4-5 piece band for your party. 

This is the perfect choice for smaller events where you simply want to set a tropical mood for your party.  No vocals, just a lovely tropical background and ambience. 

A TRIO WITH GUITAR AND VOCALS

Here we add Jim Long's great guitar styling and vocals to the Duo's Steel Drums and midi backgrounds.  This is a fun group with the added dimension of Jim's guitar solos.

Great band for the small to medium event where you desire vocals and a little more band interaction with your guests.

THE BEACH QUARTET - ALL STEEL DRUMS/VOCALS

Add Dave and Jackie to the original duo and you have the sound of an All Steel, Caribbean beach band playing and singing your island favorites.

Greater audience interaction, Jackie's wonderful voice w/Jan and Dave on backup vocals.  You've got to hear some of Dave's great Steel Drum Solos.  Perfect band for the laid back party for 50 plus guests.  A very happy sound!

THE  STAGE QUARTET - STEEL DRUMS, GUITAR, PERCUSSION & VOCALS

Add Jim and Mary to the original duo for a tropical feeling mini variety show.  This band can go in a lot of different directions to please your audience.  Two lead singers and a bit more of a refined sound for the party of 50 plus.

THE SHOW BAND

Bring everyone's talents to the mix and the band is truly versatile.   3 lead vocalists, a great guitarist, a great Steel Drum soloist and all the backup voicing required to put on a spectacular show for your audience.  We also bring in special guests artists on percussion and bass.

The Show Band provides great harmonies, the addition of some light rock for your dancers, lots of band/audience interaction and just an overall warm, fun entertainment package for your larger party, wedding reception or dance affair.

If you just have to have the sound of live percussion in addition to our normal hand percussion for your larger party, we have special "celebrity" guest artist who joins us to fill that bill for you.  We can add to virtually any of the groups to provide an extra dimension in the "Rhythm"  department....or "engine room" as we like to call it!

MEET DAVE AND JACKIE!

Jackie and Dave Beery began playing pans as music majors at Cal State University at Long Beach.  Dave was a percussion/music performance major and Jackie was a choral/vocal conducting major.

They joined the CSULB steel band led by Dr. Michael Carney and later were asked to Join the Pandemonium Steel Drum Band also led by Dr. Carney.

While with Pandemonium, Dave and Jackie performed as guest artists with the Long Beach Pops Symphony, Virginia Pops Symphony, Modesto Symphony, Buffalo Symphony, and the Tulsa Symphony.

Jackie has since both directed and performed with the Rusty Steel Band in Torrance, CA and has performed with numerous other California Steel Bands.

Dave is the former director of the #10 Tin Can Band at North Torrance High School and plays pan regularly throughout the area.  Dave also manufactures and tunes steel drums through his business, SMARTY PANS located in Lakewood, California.

MEET JIM AND MARY ANN!

Jim and Mary Ann Long perform throughout Southern California as The First Class Band and have brought their special musical talents to bear as key members of the Hopetown Lighthouse Steel Band.

A guitarist with extra special talent, Jim lends a unique authenticity to the performance, no matter in which genre he performs.  His vocal ability lends itself from folk to rock which provides a lot of versatility to our band. Jim's First Class Band is the ideal segue between his love of rock and the tropical music he plays with Hopetown Lighthouse. As the music technician for California State University at Long Beach, Jim brings his strong musical skills to every performance which is always a hit with the audience!  Checkout Jim in his "rasta" hat the next time we're at your party! 

Mary Ann Long has been a professional singer for over 25 years. Since completing her vocal education she has worked steadily with various groups including the Dave Dallas Band, the San Fernando Valley Choral, Elegancia Band and the First Class Band with her husband Jim.  Mary Ann is a great addition to Hopetown Lighthouse Steel Band!  She has a diverse vocal style and can truly "belt out" a song!  Mary Ann is definitely a crowd pleaser...especially when she wears her fruit salad costume hat!
